On March 15, 2025, join the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society for the annual lecture and tour of the site of one of California’s worst natural disasters, the failure of the St. Francis Dam. More than 450 people died in the flood caused by the dam break that happened just before midnight, March 12, 1928. Learn about this historic event and visit the sites in San Francisquito Canyon where disaster struck with tragic consequences. Hear from experts on the disaster, Alan Pollack, Frank Rock, Ann Stansell and Dianne Hellrigel who will accompany participants on a bus trip to the site for a hike around some of the ruins, highlighted by informative and entertaining stories.
Tickets are $75 per person and include a light snack and water. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and long pants for the hike. Tickets go fast, so get yours today! All monies raised go toward projects and programs for the community at the Santa Clarita History Center.
