Move your body to the island beat with Upstream playing Caribbean music, Reggae, Calypso, Soca and Steel Drum music. Throughout the night, Betty Rox will lead you through dance routines from the islands of Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados, and combining soca, dance hall, punta, and African dance styles. Steel pannist, percussionist and educator Joseph Peck will provide steel pan demonstrations and a Caribbean drum circle.

Blending elements from traditional Caribbean festivals like Carnival and Junkanoo, you can interact with limbo dance, costumed masqueraders and moko jumbie stilt walkers, and afterward create your own Carnival headpiece or mask. Then, explore the Andros Barrier Reef – the world’s 3rd largest barrier reef—known for its incredible sea life. Afterward, enjoy a taste of the Caribbean from the onsite food trucks, The Jerk Truck and The Tropic Truck.

Celebrate is an event series that celebrates cultures, customs and culinary wonders from around the world. Every first Friday from April to September, immerse yourself in a cultural celebration at the Canyon Country Community Center from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Come share in the music, dance, food, art and educational experiences from the diverse people we have all around us.
