Artist Reception - Three Projects: Small, Medium and Large

The City of Santa Clarita invites the public to an artist reception, held as part of the monthly SENSES event, on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at The MAIN from 7:00-10:00 p.m.

‘The Jilted Brides of Heritage Valley’ is a collection of portraits, in a sense, of orange trees. I think of this as a medium size project relative to the size of the other two projects here, and I regard this work as my best and most unique work so far. My next project, ‘Rooftops’, turned out to be mostly a set of broad landscape photographs of much larger areas – views of housing developments in the Santa Clarita Valley, taken from ridges and mountaintops. That project involved lots of driving and hiking and views of wide vistas and deep canyons, and it put me into the mood for a much smaller and more intimate project. The result turned out to be ‘Old Friends’, a group of photos of old, very old, and extremely old cameras, a whimsical set shown as something of a giant group portrait. – Ted Dayton

About the Artist
Ted Dayton is a nearly-lifelong photographer and now a 22-year resident of Santa Clarita. He attended Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, a very good and somewhat famous school at one time, but now no longer in existence. Now retired after a 45-year career as a commercial photographer, he concentrates on personal projects, always with the intention of making photographs in ways not seen before.
