Skate Park Painting Workshops and Community Engagement Project

Come meet Artist Miguel A. Del Real, the selected artist for the new Santa Clarita Skate Park Public Art Project. Del Real will be on hand for three days for community engagement to become better informed on what the public would like to see for the final public art piece. He will be talking to local skaters and park-goers about the upcoming new project as well as teaching two skateboard painting workshops.

The signature Del Real style uses depth and layers to show conceptual imagery, line precision, and unique color combinations. As a lifelong native to Chicago, Del Real finds inspiration from diverse cultural design motifs and the global art scene. With a Bachelor of Fine Art from Northeastern Illinois University and experience as an Educator, Del Real has worked in both public art installation and fine art exhibition.

On Friday 2/22 Miguel will be at the Skate Park from 4-6pm to talk to skaters. Then on Saturday 2/23, from 10am to noon, and Sunday 2/24, from noon to 2pm, there will be a FREE workshop where Del Real will teach skateboard painting techniques. Supplies will be provided, but space is limited. You can sign-up online for the workshop, as well as take a survey on what you’d like to see as part of the Skatepark Public Art Project.
